Excellency has entirely overruled.

It is true as stated in paragraph 6 of the

letter that Hongkong Counsel think it necessary "for at least

four Counsel to be in Court during the whole of every trial" but

I invariably find that the solicitors support them, alleging that

Mr. A. or Mr. B. is particularly required.

4.

The Registrar under my instructions has made every effort to expedite the trial paper but without success. At the close of the present abnormally long case I will however that take the solicitors at their word and will "strictly enforce"

the practice referred to. The result I shall take the opportunity of communicating to Your Excel lency: as I know it will justify the course which I believe to be the only practical remedy for the present state of affairs.

5.

Mr. Justice Gompertz has already addressed Your Excellency at length on the alleged "dilatory nature of the

hearing" of the case now in course of trial.

I have ste.,

(8d.) W. Rees Davies,,

Chief Justice.
